Mixes Science with Design – Tom Dixon

Tom Dixon, the well-known British designer, participated in a panel at the event Closing the Gap Materials at Berns in Stockholm. He highlighted the importance of science for design and also talked about an upcoming grand project. Dixon plans to lower the formations in the sea off the Bahamas.

Over time, the structures will be covered with coral and sea life, and after a while Dixon plans to lift the objects up from the sea to be exhibited and then sold. An example of Dixon’s combination of business acumen, design, and curiosity on the power of nature and science.

We met Tom Dixon in a conversation about sustainability, why research and science needs to be mixed with design, and why business models and factories is central to his creation of new designs.
