Progress Report 2025 presents a larger selection of the 30 projects that Axfoundation runs.
Why are brownies being baked with blood in the test kitchen at Torsåker Farm? What are wool and reed doing in the raised beds? And what did the so called “woke porridge” at the 2024 Nobel Prize Banquet has to do with Axfoundation?
Find the answers in the Progress Report 2025, along with other results of innovative solutions during the last two years in the program areas Future Food and Future Materials.
– Since 2022, the organization has doubled in staff. It’s rewarding to see the results and impact of the work we have done together with approximately 300 partners, says Secretary-General Maria Smith.
The ongoing work at Torsåker Farm is characterized by teamwork and crosscutting collaboration.
Results of nearly 30 innovative sustainability projects
Progress Report 2025 presents a larger selection of the 30 projects that Axfoundation runs. A couple of examples: Within the Feed of the Future project, insects, mycoprotein and mussels have been evaluated as feed ingredients for pigs, poultry and laying hens. The Swedish Wool Initiative has resulted in a range of products with Swedish wool as raw material in furniture, fashion, outdoor life and home decoration.
The report focuses on results and effects, with the aim of inspiring others to act and showing that it’s possible to create sustainable change for real.
Interview with Antonia and Alexandra
“To drive change, we have to work on all fronts. We are a resistance movement against indifference, paralysis, and bureaucratic stagnation.” That’s the view of Axfoundation’s Chair, Alexandra Mörner. In a personal interview, Alexandra and founder Antonia Ax:son Johnson share insights and memorable lessons learned, such as the importance of labeling what type of hemp is being grown…
– A police car drove onto my house. I was, of course, nervous and wondered what had happened. Four officers stepped out of the car holding up a plant. They said I had been reported for growing hemp.
This has happened at Torsåker Farm
Torsåker Farm has become an increasingly vibrant hub for the entire Axfoundation team, as well as for researchers and practitioners. As a development center for future food and materials, Torsåker Farm has attracted visitors that we have chosen to prioritize. In recent years, we have had the opportunity to show Swedish and international companies, experts and dignitaries practical examples of sustainable innovations within food and materials.
We also failed
To succeed with innovation, you have to aim high and dare to fail. In most projects, there are obstacles that require rework and adaptation.
